can we talk for a minute about how its not only the deaf community that uses sign language... as a matter of fact the autistic community does as well in many cases for example when they cannot have their aac with them or are too overstimulated to use it.... teaching, i agree deaf people should be given 1st opportunity to teach, however as an autistic person myself, and an auditory learner but with vocal words that dont work right much of the time i had to learn to sign, in order to communicate in my own life and its complicated enough as my signing is modified as well so, but from a learners perspective as an auditory learning having someone use their voice to explain the signs helped me alot. i dont think i could have learned without that and honestly, then id be really stuck if my aac ever didn't work for whatever reason. i am a multi modal communicator, high tech aac, low tech aac, sign, and verbal vocal speech and pen and paper i use them all... my mom was a teacher for many many years with spec ed, juvie kids, system kids, etc and she always said and even told my schoool teachers, if someone cant learn the way you teach, maybe you need to teach the way they learn.

I know this is a five year old video. None of these brands are available in Australia: Chao, Daiya, Follow you heart, Lisanatti, Miyokos, So Delicious, Teese, Tofutti, Violife What we have is 2 brands and one supermarket brand ("Made with Plants"): Of those, there are a total of 7 combinations of brands and flavours: Sheese, Biocheese Parmesan / Cheddar / Pizza / Marinated Feta / Creamy Original and finally "Made with Plants" They work out at about $45-68 per kg. Vegan cheese in Australia is terrible, lacking variety and expensive. Sheese is probably the least worst. It hadn't been in stock for months.

The ONLY times I could see a hearing person teaching ASL (and it is not up to me, so just my $0.02) are 1. If they KNOW ASL (not just ABCDE) and are teaching their very young child, like baby, then get them a Deaf teacher when the baby becomes school age and it's affordable, and 2. If they are a TOD for special needs. Special needs is very complex and sometimes the student needs someone who can hear them. That in itself is accessibility. However, at no point should people think a Deaf person can't teach someone with special needs. I just mean it all depends on the support needs of the student.

I see what you did there for the one handed sign for "talking about" where the open hand taps to the mouth and then you brought the finger to go around the other hand that wasnt there right? Just you did it one handed and without the other hand

I've been discriminated against by every person I've been employed with. And rather than help me they didn't really take my needs seriously. Nor listen when I tried to explain my needs. They promised reasonable adjustments. But Time rolled up a least a year, and they were never put in place. It's disgusting treatment, but hey if you're disabled it's treatment that is somehow deemed ok, if you are from the abled bodied world. How we change things?

They're completely removing swear words from captions as well. The fact they aren't doing anything about this is disgusting.

I’m HOH and wear dual hearing aids and I sign. There is a monthly meeting at a local restaurant / coffee shop for the Deaf community. I have attended and have had some good conversations. However, when someone arrives that that the person I’m visiting with knows, they will move on and begin visiting with the new person and drop me. I was not born deaf but hard of hearing. I don’t come from a family of deaf. If you’re born deaf and come from a deaf family, it’s more highly thought of in the Deaf community. Sometimes it’s difficult since those like me don’t truly fit into hearing or deaf worlds. Ignored by some, tolerated by others.

Those other types of name signs are sometimes referred to as "descriptive" name signs, in some of the research I've found.

It is very true it is very emotional I feel like I cheated my child with what she needed. I did try everything too, I didn't even know I had a problem until I gave birth. I am very thankful of formula and that she did great even with only a few drops of breast milk. My daughter is q now but I still blame my self sometimes why I can't breastfeed. So I never judge mothers who had to formula feed their child.

My baby is two months and i cry everyday cause no matter what I do, no milk comes out. I cry sometimes because it's really painful 😭 being unable to breastfed. What can you do when your get constipated due to formula milk?

My father in law has a stroke he’s non verbal, and can only use his right hand. We want to help him communicate better. Maybe it might be easier for him to sign with one hand if he just learns it with one hand to begin with?

Most users will have the censoring turned on, but I've found some users who have turned off the censoring in the Auto Captions.

Language isn't anyone's property to gatekeep, no matter what the mode of communication. anyone can learn any language they want in order to communicate with other human beings. The only reason to put up barriers like this is because people want to have a victim mentality. It actively discourages people from interacting with the deaf community, and that helps nobody. These days, society gives points to those who are "different" and "oppressed". I think this is an extension of that. If everyone could use sign, the deaf community wouldn't have any reason to claim that they have a "disability" and would lose that social status. I think those who are opposed to 'hearing' people learning the language, even from other 'hearing people', have a huge chip on their shoulder. Prejudice stems from the inability to communicate with one another - the more we can 'speak' and understand one another, the better our society gets. Telling people they aren't allowed to learn a language so they can speak with you properly is just dumb, ignorant and harmful to the deaf community.

What about Signed English? This is what I have studied. Like: I am going to the store. I know it's more to sign but as a teacher with a strong emphasis on English composition I find it easier. It just bothers me the other ways because I eat to correct the grammer

I was wondering if there’s one handed signing bc of lady Jessica in Dune. Thought it was bad a$$.

One armed here, had many friends (mostly collage) that needed to sign (we mostly used pen+ paper) this much harder with limited visibility people. I keep wanting to learn its a daunting task do you have any suggestions to actually start?

PSE seems to be the best IMHO because it can convey feelings and tone better. However, people I know use ASL and it works

this hearing person read from a different Deaf community that the person signing would politely have their eyes on the vehicle's trajectory and environment, suggesting, to me, the vehicle's environment is always monitored. so, I'm curious if the beginning and ends of these messages is more apparent than a conversation in a safer situation.
